On April 14 A "new" trail called us today... taken from Laura O. Foster's Portland Hill Walks, we found a walk we had never done, traversing the St. Johns Bridge and ascending through the adjacent forest via Ridge Trail and then descending Springwater Road, we got almost to 1000' elevation and walked about 6.5 miles (according to Strava). The trail was muddy and slippery, but we proceeded with aplomb.
A recommended film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1675434/ French. After he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caretaker. Watching the actor who plays the young man is a gift.
April 21 We take a break and the next walk will be April 28, meeting at the main park building and parking area of Tryon Creek St. Park off Terwilliger Extension.
