Walkie-Talkie Portland
October 27 We walked 7 miles from 15th & Broadway along a route over the Steel Bridge, south along the Park Blocks, and returned along the waterfront and over the lower deck of the Steel Bridge. I was not in on all the conversations but Harry and I considered the proposition that, if considered only as a cost question, then a single pay government health insurance would be less expensive than the method we now use which forks truckloads of money through private insurance companies. Ideological baggage seems to be keeping that obvious choice from being considered despite the overall success of Medicare. Ralph and I discussed who shot JFK, with me promoting the idea of more than one shooter and the impossibility of the pristine bullet passing through and damaging two bodies. Karen added insights to nutrition decisions and explained why there are locks along the fence on the Steel Bridge pedestrian way. Once again we experienced not only a physical workout but a mind stretch also.
November 3 At 9 a.m. meet at the Starbucks on Park Ave. in the former Ione Plaza now the Vue Apts.
